About our rehearsals, fees and FAQs

Who can join Sing Now Choir?
All school aged children - we welcome all abilities and levels of prior musical experience - simply every child and young adult who wants to sing! ðŸŽ¶
Our unique model is based upon the premise that everyone has a voice. And we learn through music making together.

What do your rehearsals look like?
We start with musical ice-breakers and musical games suited to all choristers, then we begin our repertoire - pop, classical, jazz, music theatre and pieces commissioned especially for us. Younger students will start by learning melody lines and how to sing with beautiful phrasing and clear diction, for example. Older and more capable students will be encouraged to take on harmony parts and lead sections as they progress through the process.
Our curriculum is based upon the music education methodologies of Orff Schulwerk, Kodaly and includes movement pedagogy of Dalcroze and Drama skills. We also incorporate stagecraft and perfomance skills appropriate for the age levels of the students.

Can I come to a trial rehearsal?
Yes! We would love you to come along and see what we do. Your child will be looked after by the students who will act as mentor to them. Your child will not have to sing by themselves, and can join in as much as they like.
If you decide to continue, after one trial rehearsal (free), the remainder of your first term will be charged on a pro rata basis (i.e. if you join in week 6 of 10, the fee for that term will be $180).
Please register your interest in joining a free trial HERE and we will contact you.

What are the fees?
Full term fees are $360, payable at the start of each term. Or you can pay one year in advance @ $1440. We will invoice you once you have completed the registration form and we have confirmed your place in the choir.

Is there an audition to join?
No, we work on the premise that the human voice is our first tool of communication as humans. All children can learn to sing and express their voice through encouragement and positive instruction by experienced educators.

What is the committment required? All students should attend weekly rehearsals and also endeavour to be available for the end of term 1-3 rehearsal showcases for parents. In addition, an end of year concert will be held.

What if my child has been studying music for a long time and is advanced in music skill?
Great! We can harness your child's abilities and extend them to sing advanced harmonies, take part in extension activities and progress their development with our experienced educators. We also extend through music theory and sight reading exercises - learning together as we go. Older students are encouraged as they progress to take on leadership opportunities and they may wish to lead sectionals and learn how to lead warm-ups, songs and small ensembles.

Are there opportunities for an extension choir or lessons outsdie of the regular choir rehearsal?
Absolutely! We will be developing an extension choir for those with particular skill and who show exceptional application. These students will be offered the opportunity to work together on additional projects to develop smaller ensemble singing skills and solo opportunities in the furture.

Who will be teaching my child and running rehearsals?
Lanneke Jones is the Music Director for both the Chatswood and Lane Cove Choirs. She will lead weekly rehearsals. She is joined by Allegra Wallace-Wells, an experienced early childood and primary carer, singer, guitarist and recording artist/producer who will also lead activities and sectionals especially for the little ones in our care. She has a special gift in leading primary-aged children!
From time to time, we invite other musicians and educators to join us. They have unique skills in composition, choral conducting, singing and musical instruments. We learn to extend our musical, stylistic and vocal techniques from these professionals in a workshop-like setting.
